Help change the future for secondhand clothing!
Petition to remove tax on the sale of secondhand clothes
As a secondhand clothing wholesaler and retailer, we know firsthand how challenging it can be to launch and sustain a successful resale business. We also see that while sustainability is quickly becoming a buzzword in the fashion industry and in the halls of Congress, the vital work done by clothing resellers like us often goes unnoticed and unsupported. We resellers are innovative and resourceful—we’ve always found ways to thrive on our own. But let’s be real: if any businesses deserve recognition and support for driving sustainability, it’s those of us in the resale industry.
That’s why we’re backing a new petition led by Rachel Kibbe to eliminate the double taxation on secondhand clothing—a change that will directly benefit all clothing resale businesses.
What Does This Mean?
Right now, secondhand clothing is often taxed twice—once when it’s originally sold and again when it’s resold. This petition aims to end this double taxation by removing the sales tax on resold items. This change would reduce costs for sellers and encourage more consumers to buy secondhand, boosting demand and supporting the growth of our businesses.
Here are two simple ways you can support this cause:

We’re fired up about the incredible work that Rachel Kibbe and the American Circular Textiles are doing to fight for businesses like ours. Rachel is a force to be reckoned with, leading the charge on the American Textile Recycling Act, which already has bipartisan support. She’s got a track record of getting things done, and with your backing, we can make this happen.
